the reflectors

another twistytrack. a nod to the wombats and “moving to new york” and how real friends forgive. i use floodlights in this version but i’ve toyed with searchlights, which may get the release like circle gets the square.

The past slides down a bottomless wall
Over miles upon miles of one-way calls
Man, it’s been years
Since that open-arm town.

if you knew who your friends were
you wouldn’t go back.
there’s just no way
you would ever say that
friends like those would ever take you back.

in ninety four you swore you wrote the code
and you and me we chose to give up all control.
now we can never be invisible
or keep floodlights off our fears.

if you knew who
your friends were
you would never go back.

if you knew who your friends were
you wouldn’t go back.
there’s just no way
you would ever say that
friends like those would ever take you back.

an overheard he said/she said screamdown. on the other (back of the) hand, though, this could easily be an internal dialogue.

Eff It Up by The Reflectors

(he said)
“I’ve given half my life
For the common good
And I’ve given away the rest
the best of me

everybody owns me
but nobody runs me
So now I get to be
the bitch of your worst dreams”

(she said)
“I gave all my life
Just to be with you
Here’s everything you need
And what do you do?

You effed it up
Like you always do
You effed it up
Don’t worry it’s no use
You just eff it up
Like you always do”

(all together now)
“You eff it up
Like you always do
Eff it up
Don’t worry it’s no use
You just eff it up
Like you always do”

this song was inspired by pinky masters bar, savannah, ga. the jukebox was connected to the master blaster so it found us brandy by the looking glass and then walking on a dream by empire of the sun. nights that never end are still never enough time, tho.

Hello from the road
I got a thousand miles to go
Last night, we made a beautiful blur
You set me free

You and I never get enough
Time to make
More than a beautiful blur

Last night under the stars
Your words whippin’ like wind around a car
We had nothing to lose
Except time

Hello from the road
It’s a favorite song
Hey Savannah, yeah play it one more time
Set me free

You and I never get enough
Time to make
More than a beautiful blur

have you seen what they do to innocence now?

There’s always something somewhere that interrupts your business
Gets in the way of your success
There’s always something somewhere that splits the electorate in two
Renders each half ridiculous

Burn your pile of magazines
Destroy the dial on your radio
Turn your back on that television
See stars in your mind
See the stars in your mind

There’s always something somewhere that catches you on tape
everyone is someone else’s celebrity
Feel free to feel famous when you’re down-
town at the end of the world

You are free to fly…free to deny gravity……stretch time………

There’s always something somewhere that interrupts your business
Gets in the way of your success
Never let anyone anytime tell you that you’re worthless
Dream of love, take back your time!

Burn your pile of magazines
Destroy the dial on your radio
Turn your back on that television
See stars in your mind

Burn your pile of magazines
Destroy the dial on your radio
Turn back the clock on the internet
See stars in your mind
See the stars in your mind

you just have to believe
in the right to believe in yourself

hey, old friend.

It’s always midnight
Somewhere else in the world
It’s always midnight
In a place that only lives for today

I know it ain’t right
The way our world ends tonight
But there’s nowhere to go
When you never ever never…never ever know
More than midnight

It’s always midnight
To someone without shelter
It’s always midnight
To a man with no sense of tomorrow

When you only know daylight of a lover’s life
You never get the day break, never see the heartache, never sleep off the fights
You never get more than midnight

Well, if you believe in fate then you cannot live in fear
Because nothing then is unknown
All your choices lead to here

So let’s make a toast to love
But also to the combat in life
Because struggle makes love deeper
And brings real friends to light
Just like midnight
Just like midnight

Well, you sure look funny, girl, you’re sure lookin’ strange
You can’t stay this way, no, you just gotta change
The way you’re walkin’, talkin’, it ain’t lookin’ right
The way that you been actin’ is too far out of sight

You’ve Got Your Head On Backwards

Nastynasty week. Witnessed this phenomenon everywhere I went.
Still had a brazengood time. Always do as the alt-outsider. You?

Yeah, so the Jerden years are not where to start with The Sonics b/c
everything of theirs on Etiquette is the golden canon, blahblahblahbut true.
So start with Psycho-Sonic and Here Are The Sonics and then
download everything else in sight. This track's original was put onto a
retrospec of The Sonics' Jerden Records years called Maintaining My Cool and
was my first toe-in-the-water with this crazyfectious ragtag sound
that is (was) The Sonics. Punk before punk was even a New York Doll.
